Introducing: Mixing With Reverb

Hey folks, Matthew Weiss, and I want to introduce
to you my mixing tutorial, Mixing With Reverb.

Reverb is a fascinating subject.

It is a subject that I am in love with.

I think reverb is beautiful.

I have been obsessed with it for years, and
so this tutorial has been a long time in the

making.

I conceived of this tutorial about three years
ago, and I started putting together some of

the ideas maybe about a year and a half ago.

The reason why it’s taken so long is because
reverb is a very complex subject, and it’s

something that I wanted to get right.

I’m such a fan of reverb, it’s the world in
which the music lives.

It’s the acoustic world meeting the analog
world, meeting the digital world, and it all

meets up on equal platforms.

There’s as much beauty in a plate reverb,
as there is in a digital algorithm, as there

is in just a wonderful sounding space, and
for certain aspects of music, sometimes a

wonderful concert hall cannot be topped, and
for other aspects of music, sometimes that

perfect digital algorithm is exactly what
you need to create the exact feel that you

want.

So this tutorial is long.

It’s over six hours in length.

However, if you’ve seen my previous tutorials
or you’re familiar with my educational style,

you know that there is no filler involved.

The reason why it’s so long is because I wanted
to make sure that it was remarkably comprehensive.

I want it so that when you’re at ground zero,
and just starting to get into it, you don’t

really know much about reverb at all, you
can gain an understanding that will propel

you through your first few years of music
production, but I also wanted to make it so

that even if you were a vetted person who’s
over 20 years of experience, you will learn

information in this video that you did not
know before.

And I mean comprehensive, I mean talking about
both the technical aspects of reverb, as well

as the creative aspects of reverb, and then
putting it into practical application through

multiple examples.

I go over genres like Bluegrass, I go over
genres like Rap — there are two Rap examples

— I go over examples like Indie Rock and
Pop, and you see it all in action.

How the idea of space gets completely reinvented.

Also, there’s a wonderful feature.

Casey from Bricasti flew all the way out to
LA just to sit down with me and have an interview,

and it’s — it is some pretty in depth stuff.

The man is clearly brilliant, he knows so
much, and was so ready to share all of his

wonderful insights, so I — the video, unedited
was over an hour in length.

I only cut out ten minutes, because everything
that he was saying was so informative, I just

didn’t want to deprive anybody of any of the
information.

So everything in here is really pretty in
depth, and I might say this is probably going

to be the benchmark standard for understanding
reverb to date, and probably for years to

come.

I’m putting that one out there.

So the website is mixingwithreverb.com.

I hope you’re even a fraction as excited about
it as I am, because I truly love the subject,

and I truly love this tutorial, so check it
out, you’re going to learn a lot.

Until next time.
