engineer grammy winner
have you ever wondered what plugins are
on a grammy winner’s mastering chain
well Jordan DJ Swivel young is a grimy
award-winning music producer
mixer audio engineer and DJ while he’s
probably best known for being Beyonce’s
personal recording engineer
jordan’s list of credits is enough to
make anyone take notice
from hip-hop titans like jay-z and Kanye
west to multi-platinum EDM
stars like the Chainsmokers and even
more recently the global phenomenon
known as bts have all gone to Jordan
more than once
his list of job titles recently got a
new addition when he released his first
VST plugin called the sauce
the sauce is a collection of audio
processors meant for vocals
and it is essentially Jordan’s vocal
processing chain baked into one plug-in
it’s absolutely incredible so i wanted
to know what’s on Jordan’s mastering
chain
so I reached out and he let me know when
I mix my emphasis is really on vocals
I’ve worked in every genre
you know hip-hop r b pop EDM
um you know k-pop and a lot now I’m
doing a bunch of afrobeat stuff
so I’ve worked in a lot of different
areas and the one
consistent thing that i think is
throughout all of my mixes is I really
take a lot of time
and put a lot of attention on vocals but
if I want to uh separate outside of that
i mean obviously I use the sauce on on
all my sessions but
um I love uh ozone i use ozone a ton
that’s like my finisher actually my
mastering bus
is i use three plugins to sort of do my
masters
the slate FGX is the first in the chain
then I throw an ozone nine on
and I have like my presets that i like
and then I adjust for each song
and then finally to bring it up to level
I don’t use the limiter on ozone I use uh
pro l2 from Fabfilter so that’s like my
go-to uh finishing
I’ll stick with those are
