Can You Mix in Headphones? Closed or Open Back Headphones for Mixing

Today we talk about a widely requested topic – Mixing and mastering music in headphones. I compare the differences between consumer and professional headphones and also compare “closed back” and “open back” headphones. In This video we compare the Beyerdynamic DT 770 and 1990 pro studio headphones There is a “rule of thumb” in the professional world which is that you should do 90% of your mixing on monitors and 10% in headphones. This works very well if you are in a well treated room however if you are like us and working in a home studio, we find that we have to rely on headphones a little bit more to get a clear, punchy and enjoyable mix. We use the Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro and 1990 Pro , closed and open backed headphones. What do you use?
