FULL LIST OF EVERYTHING COVERED IS BELOW!
Hello lovely people!
Since lots of you have been asking how we manage to make our projects so quickly for the covers and so large with our original songs without everything overloading, I thought I’d show you some of the ways I have learned to optimise my computer for music Production.
Modern computers allow all sort of amazing advancement in Audio engineering but sometimes they need a little help to run as fast as they can.
Below is a summarised list of things that will help you get the most out of your DAW and create large projects without glitches/ pops/ under runs or crashes. I hope it helps you as much as it helped me :) i have had almost every processing/crash issue imaginable over the last year or two working on a 6 year old duo core (DUO CORE!) laptop with only 4 GB RAM so I know exactly how frustrating it is to have these sorts of issues.
1) Audio Settings
– Increase Buffer Length/Size to allow your CPU more time to process the audio
-Allow “Multithreaded processing” so that all of your CPU Cores can work together and not just leave all the work to one core ( most computers have 4 to 8 cores/ logical processors so you might as well use them all :)
– Turn on “Smart Disable” – a cool feature in FL Studio
which allows you to disable plug in that are not used but re enables them as soon as they are needed
2)Remove any unused plug ins – they only eat into your RAM and look messy
3) I FORGOT TO MENTION – Go to “Tools” – ” MACROS” and select
“Purge Unused Audio Clips”
This will delete audio clips which are not used in the playlist such as old vocal takes and any samples you are not using to save RAM.
4)Turn Off internet connection and disable all background apps ( Adobe, Photoshop, iMovie, Word , 3D Space Cadet Pinball etc etc )
5) Melt the polar ice caps by switching your computer to High Performance mode ( detailed in the video) and ensure that minimum processor state is =100% (we are aiming to make music 100% so why choose anything less yeah?(Fire emoji) )
Go Vegan to make up for your environmental damage caused by music production ;)
6)Render MIDI to .wav or MP3 format by using track record on the mixer or by recording straight into the edison. This is the single best thing you can do to make the biggest improvement in processing reduction. Whenever we use our cello VST in ensemble mode, it almost crashes our PC ( 8 vsts running in parallel all using 9GB of samples with effects along with everything else in the track) if we “Print” it to a .wav or mp3 the computer has only to deal with a TINY file and ZERO effects like EQ or compression.
7) Don’t go too heavy with effects. Try to group tracks together to compress, EQ or add reverb to many tracks with only one VST Effect. It isn’t ideal but sometime compromises have to be made.
