This App Will Improve Your Mixing Skills

Hey, how’s it going?

It’s Dan, founder of The Pro Audio Files,
making my once a decade appearance on YouTube.

I wanted to take a minute today to let you
know about an app I built before starting

The Pro Audio Files called Quiztones, and
it’s on sale this week.

40% off.

So it’s an ear training app that helps you
recognize boosts and cuts in frequency on

different kinds of source material, so you
can kind of more intuitively use EQ, you’ll

start getting cleaner mixes.

I experienced it myself in just a few weeks
of working on building it years ago.

So I’m super confident that you’ll get a similar
result from it.

I never really made a proper demo video for
it, so in light of all of the apps being on

sale this week, I thought I would, you know,
kind of just run you through and show you

how I work a little bit.

Alright, here I go.

So the app is split into three sections: Tones,
which are just sine waves identification,

gain, which is just changes in level and different
source material, and EQ, which is boosts and

cuts of different frequencies on various source
material, including songs from your own music

library.

So we can go here, we can start on Easy, which
is just like, octave boosts and cuts, like,

really drastic, and then we can go all the
way to expert, which is more 1/3 octave, closer

together, smaller boosts and cuts.

So you know, we can start here, there’s built
in loops you can play with, basically this

toggles the EQ on and off, and this is a loop,
so…

[acoustic guitar, before and after EQ]

And then you get scored based on which choice
your answer was, so you know, if you get it

on the first try, you get 100 points, that
counts as 50, third was 25, fourth is zero,

obviously.

So yeah, that’s that, but I want to show you
how you can import songs from your music library

here.

So you can go — let’s do this, I don’t know
if I can hear it on my MacBook speakers, but

just pick a song here, it’s got some loops
here from a sample library.

You can quiz…

[music, before and after EQ]

And so on.

So yeah.

The apps are 40% off this week.

I just wanted to let you know, you getting
Quiztones directly helps us bring you more

and more free content on The Pro Audio Files.

So yeah, I really appreciate your support,
and we’re looking forward to bringing you

tons of new stuff.

Feel free to leave a comment on anything you
want to see on the site, or with Quiztones,

or how awkward the 20th take of this video
was, and yeah!

I hope you have a great day.

Take care.
