Mixing with EQ ➟ In-Depth Mix Training Course from Matthew Weiss

Hey, folks!

Matthew Weiss here, and I want to tell you
about my newest tutorial, Mixing with EQ.

It’s all about equalization, and how to use
it.

Now, EQ is something that I think we’re all
fairly familiar with.

What it does is pretty simple.

It adjusts the tone of something.

How we use it, however, not always so simple.

If you’re like me, at some point in your mixing
career, possibly even now, you look at something,

and you EQ it, and you’re not sure if you’re
actually making it better or you’re just making

it different.

Why are we EQing something?

What purpose does it serve?

Well, that’s what this tutorial is going to
be about.

Now, I’m going to break this down into a couple
of different compartments.

The first is going to be all about what an
EQ truly is.

So we’re going to go over a little bit of
design, a little bit of technical know how…

I think these things are really important
to understand, and often times, undersold,

because we always look at the artistic side
of what we do, rather than the technical side,

but in fact, the technical side is what leads
to the artistic side, so we need to have at

least some foundational understanding of what
an EQ is and how it works.

Then we’re going to go over the basic theory
of the application.

Why we do things, why we might do things,
how things work, energy vs. amplitude, frequency

vs. texture and tone…

These kinds of concepts that bridge the technical
into the artistic, then finally, the third

part is going to be all about the practice.

How we put it in motion, why we choose to
do what we do with it.

I’m going to show you a lot of examples that
are going to be really useful for your own

mixing, and of course, I’m going to end it
off with a mix walkthrough that focuses all

on EQ choices, and I’m going to explain why
I decide to do everything I do and how that

ultimately amounts to a great sounding mix.

EQ is probably one of the most important signal
processors we have at our disposal, so using

it is absolutely crucial to becoming a great
engineer.

I hope you guys dig it.

Check it out, download it, learn from it,
and of course, always keep checking back at

theproaudiofiles.com for more updates, more
information, more tutorials, and more great

education.
